Writer Tips

Below are links to websites that helped me and, in turn, should help you. Got more questions? Hop over to my current website: www.emilylaynebooks.com!

Critique Circle
FREE!
A web community for writers of all genres where you can submit your stories and get them critiqued by fellow writers, chat in the forums, monitor the progress of your manuscript and much, much more. This is an invaluable resource for improving your writing and building relationships with other writers.

Query Tracker
FREE!
Looking for an agent? A publisher? Want to keep track of when you send queries and get responses? This is the place to go.

Writer Terminology
Gives definitions to some of the writing world's strange words. Though, if you stumble across any not listed, Google's pretty good at defining things too.

ProWriting Aid
FREE! (Or $35.00)
An awesome, awesome editing tool. Not only does ProWriting check your grammar, but it analyzes your writing too. The software is designed to point out issues to help improve readability, find overused words, eliminate cliches, and tons more. It's sort of free because you don't have to pay for the online version, but it's limited in that you can only analyze a certain number of words per session (I think it's 2,000). The most useful tool, personally, is installing it as an add on for MS Word. You get a free 15 day trial.

Natural Reader
FREE!
Ever hear that reading your book aloud while editing will help you catch errors? Well, that method definitely works. Only reading aloud for hours is mind-numbing and hard on the throat. Natural Reader gets rid of that by reading your book to you. The only downside of the free version are robotic voices and an annoying add that pops up every few minutes. But so worth it!
